Today, I had the privilege of chatting with an industry big shot, Brother Jun, and I found that impressive people excel at whatever they do.

Persistence

Isn't this quite simple? I wonder what everyone has persisted in the longest besides eating and sleeping? For example, I want to persist in working out and daily updates. If I can stick to it for 1 to 2 weeks, I believe most people can manage that. However, if you are asked to persist for a month, three months, half a year, a year, five years, or ten years, I believe many might hesitate. But the impressive people I see persist over years, like Mr. Run, who has been writing for an astonishing 24 years.

Of course, just knowing how to persist isn't enough; we also need to know how to better manage ourselves.

For instance, an author of an article mentioned that he has been writing for over three years, but the results were poor. If we are stuck in low-level persistence, then no matter how long we do it, we won't see any progress. Recently, I've hit a significant bottleneck; after writing around 100 pieces, I need to reflect on how to improve the quality of my articles.

Products

Through reading and communication, I found that the thinking of big shots is very open. Take writing a public account as an example. The perspectives people have are completely different. I feel like I am still viewing it from a functional perspective, while others are looking at it from a global perspective.

How do we understand this? If we only think about this issue from a product perspective, we might conclude that as long as my content is good, it will definitely succeed. But we overlook the reality that we are all ordinary people, and it is challenging to produce viral content. This is similar to our work in technology; we might think that as long as we create a product, there will definitely be users.

However, the way big shots think is quite different. For example, how to position your account, who your audience is, how to spread your content channels, how to find your fans, how to keep up with trends, how to create good titles, and what areas you excel in and what areas you don't. Each of these points is worth digging into and contemplating. Everyone is different, so big shots can only guide you in direction and methods, and you can only take inspiration from them. Many times, when we design a product, we start by imitating (copying) because every process and button placement of competing products has been refined. As a newcomer, the best way is to grow by standing on the shoulders of giants, so you won't step into all the historical pitfalls.

Of course, you can choose not to believe in this and trust your unique talent, following your own ideas. After all, if Ford had focused all his efforts on horses, the person who popularized the automobile wouldn't have been him.

Altruism

This is also a term I've been hearing a lot lately: altruism ultimately benefits oneself. So, should we become overly nice people and help everyone? Of course not; we need to be selective, as everyone's time is limited.

How do we judge whether someone is worth helping? The key point is to look at their character. This can be a bit metaphysical. For example, if someone is deeply involved in gambling and asks to borrow money from you, should you lend it? Similarly, if you spend time helping someone and they remain stagnant, should you continue to help?

Many people don't believe that there are those who selflessly help others. I used to doubt this too, thinking, why would someone help you? They probably want to take advantage of you. Until I met many entrepreneurial friends, I found that some people genuinely practice altruism and long-term thinking. I also discovered that many big shots share similar approaches to their work, just as failures often have various reasons, the reasons for success are mostly similar.

Time

In the past, I thought, can't I find this knowledge online? Why should I pay for it? But I realized that time is the biggest cost.

For example, when it comes to operating a public account, you can find a lot of similar content online, and what everyone says is quite similar. This is like when I look for various applications and find that everyone's processes are similar. At this point, you need to figure out why they designed it that way, which will take a lot of your time, and the conclusion may not even be correct.

Here's an example: "In my backyard, I can see two trees outside the wall, one is a jujube tree, and the other is also a jujube tree." I wonder if anyone knows where this is from? Many people might think, why write such a pointless sentence? Of course, some have even written thousands of words of reading comprehension on it. If Lu Xun were to explain why he wrote it this way, wouldn't that save you time?

Similarly, I used to love looking for cracked software to use, but now I prefer to use free versions, and if there are no free options, I opt for paid ones. You can actually do the math: if you can earn 1 million a year, based on 365 days, and subtract the 8 hours you sleep each day, the value of your remaining time is 171 yuan per hour. At this point, you can decide whether you should spend money to save time.

Spending money to buy time allows you to have more time to create more value.

In conclusion

I greatly appreciate Brother Jun's insights, which have broadened my horizons and thinking. If anyone is interested, you can also follow him; the content is quite valuable.
