"Please Remember, You Are Chinese"

Today, I saw many people posting R.I.P. for Dr. Li Wenliang. Dr. Li was one of the first to inform everyone in a WeChat group about the discovery of SARS, and an hour later, he confirmed the infection of the coronavirus.
What is SARS? It was everyone's nightmare 17 years ago. During that hour, without any official confirmation, the announcement of a confirmed SARS case was indeed misinformation that could lead to social disorder. Later, the overseas edition of the People's Daily published an article specifically addressing the situation of these eight individuals. If the official media had not remained silent at that time, you might have had to stock up again on salt and Ban Lan Gen, even if you hadn't finished what you hoarded back in 2003. This is also why there should be a dedicated section for real-time updates to debunk rumors. It’s important to note that the population with a bachelor's degree or higher in China is still less than 4% of the total population.
Last night, there were suffocating actions on Weibo and Twitter that made many people feel angry. They said not to mention that this prosperous era is as you wish, and now you can understand why Hong Kong people are protesting. Some choose to speak the truth in a world full of lies. Suddenly, everyone transformed into righteous heroes, coming out to condemn.
Recently, a series of suffocating actions, such as the inaction of the Red Cross, the self-blame of Wuhan officials, and the mask shortages in Dali, have led everyone to need an outbreak point, a trigger. After the whistleblower fell, everyone became angry. Various WeChat screenshots began to appear, explaining ECMO, which is used only after the heart has stopped beating for three hours. The public's anger reached a boiling point. Not long ago, people were discussing the issue of medical disputes, but now they have become the perpetrators. I don’t understand medicine, so when I’m sick, I go to the hospital, and I listen to the doctors.
I recently read a book titled "The Nature of Poverty: Why We Can't Escape Poverty." It mentions an example where in some very poor areas of Africa, when people get sick, they don’t go to the doctor. If they do, the doctor will just tell them to rest for a few days, as the illness will resolve itself, or prescribe a little medication that will suffice. They feel that their recovery has nothing to do with the doctor; it was their own body that healed, and the medicine they took was what cured them, leading to an unfounded distrust of doctors, neglecting preventive advice, refusing vaccinations, and undergoing surgeries too late, which results in even greater poverty.
It sounds amusing, but when people watch the news, they often see statements like, "Why did the person who came in fine suddenly pass away...?" Each person's growth trajectory and education lead to differing worldviews. Regarding why ECMO is only used after the heart has stopped, it raises issues of conscience and corruption. I am more inclined to believe that treatment was abandoned at 2:58, and the death notice was issued. I believe there will be a satisfactory truth.
SARS first appeared in Shunde, Guangdong, on November 16, 2002. By the morning of February 10, 2003, the Guangdong Provincial Government's Information Office issued a news release officially announcing atypical pneumonia. On February 21, 2003, a carrier entered Hong Kong, and the disease rapidly spread worldwide. The World Health Organization entered Guangdong, China, on April 2, 2003, to assist in investigation and handling, and after more than two months of effective control, on June 15, China achieved a record of zero confirmed cases, suspected cases, and previously suspected cases that turned confirmed. This basically resolved the SARS outbreak. During the SARS outbreak, Hong Kong had 1,755 confirmed cases and 299 deaths, with a mortality rate of 17%. This is why healthcare workers in Hong Kong would rather strike than go to work; the shadow of childhood still looms. At that time, Hong Kong was the second-largest infection area outside mainland China, which had only 5,327 confirmed cases and 349 deaths, with a mortality rate of 6.6%.
The first symptoms of the novel coronavirus case that went to the hospital occurred on December 8, 2019. By 9 PM on January 7, 2020, experts detected the virus as a novel coronavirus. On January 23, 2020, it was announced that Wuhan would be locked down, with everyone wearing masks and staying at home.
It can be seen that from the confirmation of the first case in the hospital to the lockdown, it took just over a month. The results of the series of measures taken are evident to all. During the SARS outbreak, a friendly match between China and Brazil was still organized, with 50,000 participants. Now, people are afraid to organize even small gatherings, and family members call me to tell me not to go out, to wash my hands frequently, and to wear masks. Even so, by February 7, 2020, there were 31,215 confirmed cases nationwide. Excluding the incubation period, this pandemic swept from Wuhan across the country in just a month. The convenience of transportation during the Spring Festival travel rush, the largest human migration, expanded the outbreak. Among the 3 billion trips during the Spring Festival, there were 2.43 billion road passengers, 440 million railway passengers, 79 million civil aviation passengers, and 45 million waterway passengers. If there were no doctors, the current number might not be 31,215.
In this pandemic, although some individual officials made suffocating moves, the state did not choose to remain silent or leave things unresolved. Instead, all matters were followed up with explanations. Although some places may not meet certain people's expectations, I can see that our country is gradually becoming more transparent, not only in infrastructure but also in politics.
At this moment, you are at home with the heating on, looking at your phone, eating sunflower seeds, lying on the sofa, expressing your dissatisfaction. All of this freedom has been fought for by the country for you; please do not let your ignorance be used as a tool for so-called resistance.
Please remember, you are Chinese. Please trust the country; the light will one day illuminate every dark place.
As usual, here’s a picture of my child to end the post.
P.S.
As of the time of posting, I saw: With the approval of the Central Government, the National Supervisory Commission has decided to send an investigation team to Wuhan, Hubei Province, to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the issues related to Dr. Li Wenliang as reported by the group.
