A couple of days ago, I saw Mr. Er Yu post on his Moments, asking what you would most like to do if you are financially free right now.
I wonder how various classmates would answer this question; feel free to leave a comment.
I thought about it and said I would give a thumbs up, because when we see a friend in trouble in our circle, our first instinct is to give a thumbs up. I used to always think that if I had something, I would plan to do something with it.
When I was a child, I remember we would secretly play the Little霸王 at home, listening for sounds at the door, and if there was any noise, we would immediately put away the game console. At that time, I always thought it would be great to be able to play video games freely in the future, and I would play all day long.
But as I grew older, my thoughts slowly changed.
Later, when I had the opportunity, I found that this is how it is. Many things only have meaning when done in the present; once that time has passed, you may lose interest.
Many people say they want to do certain things after earning a certain amount of money, but when they actually earn it, those things may not be what they pursue anymore. In other words, as a person's understanding changes, so do their pursuits.
I used to not understand why people in their 40s would start to study the I Ching or Buddhism, feeling that these were just talking about some vague and grand principles. Now I slowly understand that many of the principles spoken by predecessors have been passed down for thousands of years; if they were really just nonsense, why would they still be passed down?
We cannot just look at things on the surface; there is a reason for their existence, whether that reason is considered good or bad by society. If we reflect on the underlying reasons behind things, it is more meaningful than criticizing the things themselves.
Take this question: why are those low-quality web games something we can see everywhere?
For example, a friend of mine left his previous company and said he didn't want to be a product manager anymore; he wanted to go to a fund company. In the end, he went to a big company in Hangzhou and continued being a product manager. I also know someone who used to be a programmer, then left his job and couldn't find a suitable one, and later became a full-time cryptocurrency trader. Another friend who used to work in foreign trade is now a popular figure in emotional advice.
Many times, we are pushed along by life. We easily fall into a pattern of predicting the future based on our current state; no one can guess what they will be like ten years from now. It’s not that we should just go with the flow; everyone is an ordinary person. We always think we can avoid being influenced by those around us, or that those we consider very successful must have exceptional self-control and strong willpower.
Until one time I watched an interview with Yu Hongmin, where he said he had been taking sleeping pills for 20 years. I always thought my ability to handle pressure was too weak; sometimes I would have insomnia, while others wouldn’t. But upon deeper understanding, I realized that some of the flaws you think shouldn’t exist actually exist in others too.
Sometimes we are just pushed along by life; don’t be too obsessed with how the future will be. Cherish the present, and take each step steadily.
